TRAINEESHIP REQUIREMENTS

• IAESTE trainees are enrolled in higher education institutions in 87 IAESTE member countries at Bachelor, Master or PhD level.

• Traineeships can take place throughout the year and can last from a minimum of 6 weeks to a maximum of 6 months.

• Traineeships must be directly related to the field of study of the trainees. The work to be performed during a traineeship has a predominantly educational character.

• The work offered is planned in advance and students are informed about their tasks and duties.

• The employer must set up a traineeship contract (voluntary traineeship) or a traineeship agreement (regulated traineeship).

• To avoid the risk of financial precarity among young people, all IAESTE host employers are expected to pay a cost of living allowance to their trainees. The monthly amount of the traineeship allowance must amount to at least 80 % of the current social inclusion income (REVIS). At 1 January 2020, this amount was EUR 1,202.328 per month. Material benefits such as free accommodation are also taken into consideration. The allowances awarded during the traineeship period to non-resident trainees are exempt from withholding tax. Note that students in technical fields are generally paid more than non-technical fields. Paying a higher wage will make the traineeship more attractive and increase the pool of interested and motivated students.

• IAESTE trainees have good English language skills which are tested thoroughly before the application is accepted. Including English as the main working language for your traineeship will increase the chances of finding the best candidate.
